Mary Tudor was its first owner, later it belonged to the Spanish royal family, and finally in 1969 Richard Burton that has been Elizabeth Taylor’s husband at that time bought this magnificent thing for her. Maybe you’ve heard about Wittelsbach-Graff Diamond? 31-carat Blue Wittelsbacher is one of the world’s biggest diamonds. This jewel’s history is simply extraordinary Its name comes from the German Wittelsbach dynasty. The jewel became its property in 1772. After the World War I it has been nearly sold to Christies auction house but in the last moment in the mysterious circumstances jewel has been replaced by worthless substitute. Nobody has heard about Blue Wittelsbacher until the exhibition that took place in the 50’s in Brussels. In 2008 world’s biggest blue diamond was bought by collector Laurence Graff. He paid 24 million dollars for it. We have to say that it’s not a bagatelle!!! Laurence Graff lend the jewel to the National Museum of Natural History in Washington. Viewers could admire it in 2010. Researchers suspect that this jewel comes from India from the same mine as famous “Hope” diamond. But it’s only guess and supposition – we’ll probably never know the truth about this beautiful miracle of nature!
