Many of us will make New Year resolutions to exercise more, eat healthier, or pick up a new hobby this year. Some of us will be able to keep up with our goals, but others will probably only last no more than a week. Something that’s a little more easy and requires less effort than trying to go to the gym several times a week is to try to give yourself a new look with different accessories and the New Year is a great time to give yourself a fresh and bold makeover. Just take a look at these recurring and new trends for 2014.

Rejuvenating the best trends of 2013

blue and turquoise gemstones

We should see a continuation of some of the best trends of 2013 into the beginning of 2014; especially with the color scheme. In 2013, jewel tones along with mint and soft pink shades were the most popular colors in fashion. For 2014, the colors will be more or less the same, but a toned down pastel hue with Radiant Orchid as this year’s Pantone Color of the Year. Rubies and Emeralds will always be popular colors as we transition from winter to spring, but consider light blue gemstones such as Larimar and Turquoise to start off your year.

During the transition from 2013 to 2014, chunky and bold statement jewelry will continue to reign on the runway and in everyday fashion, but with more natural elements such as wood, resin, and glass even though metal still remains a popular choice. Keep your eye out for carved wooden pendants and darker colors such as strands of black pearls in stores.

2013 pendants were all about the owls, cats, and a mix of rainforest animals. The trend to wear animal pendants will continue onto 2014, but with animals we associate with spring every year such as birds, frogs, and a variety of cute insects such as ladybugs. Again, metal chains will continue to be a favorite piece, but instead of geometric circles and squares, they will be shaped as leaves and flowers. Nature jewelry at the beginning of the New Year never seems to go out of style as we anxiously wait for the spring season to arrive. To keep up with your natural look, Amber alone or with other similar colored beads look beautiful as a necklace.

choker necklaces are fashionable

While we will see some repetition of 2013 jewelry trends in 2014, there will be plenty of new trends for you to add and mix up your look. Two trends that have recently made their debut include ear cuffs and metal coil choker necklaces. From glam to punk, ear cuffs come in a variety of different styles to match anyone’s look. They might look a bit complicated, but all you have to do is put it on as you would with any other earring and the rest will either curve around your ear or there will be a cuff to hook it to your ear if it dangles.

During the 90s, almost every girl was wearing the classic plastic choker that came in a pack of rainbow colors. Today, the choker has been given a sophisticated makeover for a glam look and has been part of several different designer’s collections on the runway. Go intense with a metal coil choker from Cushnie et Ochs or play it down with a giant pearl choker that looks like headphones around your neck from Chanel.

If you’ve kept your jewelry plain and simple in the past, then 2014 might be your year to start a new resolution to be bolder with your accessories. What’s been your favorite jewelry trend of 2013 and what are you looking forward to the most in 2014?
